How can I know HIM?

As you’ve been told, you have sinned against a perfectly just God. But God is perfect not only in His justice. God is also perfect in his mercy and love. In His justice, God demands payment for sin. In His mercy and love, God Himself makes the payment. What is the payment?  The answer is that the payment is not a “what.”  The payment is a “Who.”

The payment for sin which brings peace with God and forgiveness of sins is a person; a human being. That person is Jesus Christ. Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ was born into the world. Jesus was fully man. He ate and drank, had friends, suffered hardship, had feelings of love and sorrow, was tempted, etc. However, Jesus, though fully man, never sinned but always did what pleased His Father. Had he sinned He could not have been the payment for the sins of others as He would have had His own sins to pay for.

Jesus was more than a man, though. Jesus was also fully God. His birth was a miracle, as His mother was a virgin. He was called Emmanuel which means “God with us.” In His life on earth, Jesus gave life to the dead, created, forgave sins, and taught the people with the authority of God. In other words, Jesus did what only God can do. Jesus Christ, therefore, as the Son of God, possessed the tremendous value necessary to pay the price for the countless sins of all mankind.

So how was this payment made? Jesus, the perfect, sinless, Son of God, willingly submitted to execution on a cross. Jesus’ blood was shed on a cross so that the sins of the world could be forgiven. On that cross, God the Father poured out His wrath on His beloved only Son. The wrath Jesus endured should have fallen on we who have lied, blasphemed, stolen, engaged in sexual immorality, hated, coveted, etc. Instead, as evidence of His tremendous love for His creation, Jesus took the punishment upon Himself, and it cost Him His life. The Son of God died. The life of the Son of God was the ransom paid to set you free from your sin and the eternal punishment which awaits those who have sinned against the just God. Though he died, death could not hold the Son of God. After three days, Jesus rose from the dead, and God the Father made Jesus Lord over all things.

How can you know Him?  You must receive the payment God made on behalf of sinners. You must receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, because there is salvation in no one else.
